Gallery #20

This couple originally came to KBDC looking to
purchase a kitchen display I had for sale from a
cancelled project. Because the display’s cabinets
had originally been designed to go into a specific
(and very large) space, some perquisites for
installation in this home had to be met, the main
one being a minimum ceiling height of 108”. After
meeting with them and seeing their space, getting
some measurements, and doing some initial drawings,
I found that these cabinets would fit like a glove.
We reconfigured the cabinets from the floor plan
they were originally designed for and created a new
layout for the homeowner’s kitchen with the balance
used in their wine cellar, mudroom, .
The whole kitchen was lightened up with white
cabinets around the perimeter contrasted against an
island in black painted maple and another island
with a breakfast bar in both walnut and the black
maple. These dual islands help to anchor the space
as well as create two very functional prep areas.
Granite counter tops for the island and breakfast
bar were kept light, while along the perimeter; tops
are dark to visually weigh down the white cabinetry.
The little details, what I like to call “the
jewelry” of the space: beaded chandeliers,
decorative tile work, and oil rubbed bronze cabinet
hardware and fixtures, result in a dramatic, unique
and stunning room perfect for elegant entertaining
and day to day functionality.
